So you’ve got 99 problems and money is all of them, right? Well, I can’t fix all of your 99 money problems but I can fix a few. It also starts with having a checkup every year with your money. Except during this checkup you don’t have to wait at the doctor’s office for two hours or get any medical bills … Yay!
Lucky for you, just because I love my readers, I even decided to include a handy dandy checklist for you to follow along with. Click HERE to get access to my freebies page to download the free checklist.
Grab your checklist in the freebies page and let’s get to checking!
What to do Every Year:
1. I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t tell you to set some money goals. All your money problems in life could be solved if you would just set actionable goals. Grab a piece of paper, and write down these things:
A. How much money you want to have in each savings by the end of the year. Include your retirement, emergency fund, college … et cetera.
B. How much debt you want to have paid off at the end of the year.
C. One thing you want to work on when it comes to your finances. This can be staying committed to your budget every month, finding ways to continually reduce your expenses, or even work on improving your credit score.
See? Those are all easy to figure out. Now, write it all down and make sure to be realistic. You want to make goals that are achievable.
2. Evaluate what you already have in savings. Stop sticking your head in the sand and pay attention to your money! Look at where your 401K is, your Roth IRA, stocks, or any other investments. Notice how much they’ve grown and be aware of what you have saved.
3. Evaluate your debts. Most of your money problems are more than likely debts, and guess what? They’re not going away until you deal with them!
Write down a list of all the debts you have. Go back to your goals that you wrote down and write down each debt you’re going to pay off that year. Whether it’s a medical bill, credit card or if you’re simply going to pay off your house. (Yay for you!) Again, you need to be aware of what you owe, stop ignoring it.
4. Get ready for taxes. Honestly, you know this is unavoidable so why do you keep waiting until the last minute to get it done? Do you know how much stress you could be avoiding if you just got it done early, or even prepared for it. You know it’s going to happen, you know when they’re due, so just do it.
5. Have budget ready templates so you have no excuse not to do it. If you prepare ahead for the year and find some pretty templates that you like and are efficient for your family you will be set to plan your budget every month. Put them in a binder so it’s easily accessible and you have absolutely no excuse to skip your budget for the month.
6. Take action. You’re not going to get anywhere by sticking your head in the sand and neglecting to financially prepare. You’re responsible for your own financial well-being, get to it and work on getting rid of those money problems not hiding from them!
I kept this post short and sweet because I want you to seriously take action ASAP. Start right now, you don’t have to wait until January to put your finances in order. Remember to download the checklist from my freebies page to help you take action!
If you do all of these steps every year I know you will be able to get rid of most, if not all, of your money problems.
Good luck and happy saving 🙂
