This blog post is for all of you pregnant moms out there! For some, figuring out how to tell your family you’re pregnant is a daunting task. After all, you want to make sure they’re happy and excited but you’re also trying to figure out where and when the best time and place would be. It’s important to find an idea that works for both families involved because it will mean so much more if they have been waiting for this moment with you from the start.
Scroll down for the list of my top 9 favorite creative ways to tell your family you’re pregnant!
9 Unique Ways to tell Your Family You’re Pregnant:
1 FILM YOUR REACTION TO A POSITIVE PREGNANCY TEST AND SEND IT
I love watching these reaction videos because you get to see the raw emotion and pure joy of the mama (and dad!) to be. Film yourself checking the pregnancy test then send it to them when you’re ready for them to know. You could even film them watching it to get their priceless reaction!
2 TAKE FAMILY PHOTOS AND SURPRISE THEM DURING THE PHOTOS
This is another fun way to capture your family’s reaction! Set up a photo shoot with your family and have the photographer countdown 1, 2, 3 then announce that you’re pregnant. This way you get everyone’s reactions on camera and get amazing photos to hang up in the new baby’s room.
3 HAVE THEM OVER FOR DINNER AND WRITE IT IN THE FOOD
This is one of the best ways to announce because you’re going to be hungrier than normal, and who doesn’t love food?! One of my favorite ways I’ve seen this done is getting a box of doughnuts and putting a note in the box like Alexis did in the photo above (she even has the cute sign that you can download and use!) You could also get a cake and write you’re going to be grandparents on it. Then ask one of your parents to cut the cake or open the doughnuts. Not only are they excited for a new grandbaby, but everyone loves it!
4 CREATE A PHOTO OP WITH YOUR ULTRASOUND PICTURE
People can get so creative with these photo ops! This was how we announced our pregnancy. All you need is a letterboard and the ultrasound picture and send a text out to the family with it! You could even just use the ultrasound picture, but I love the letterboard to add the little details.
5 GIFT THEM A GRANDPARENT SIGN
What are grandparents favorite gifts? Pictures of their grandkids! This cute sign from Amazon can be used with an ultrasound picture or with a picture of that cute newborn baby. It’s the gift that keeps on giving as they can continue to update the picture as their grandkids get older
6 GET THEM T-SHIRTS
A grandma is a lot of things, and one of them is always being there for your little one! I love this cute, customizable shirt that you can find on Amazon. They can really show how excited they are for their new grandbaby.
7 CREATE A PERSONALIZED MUG
I’m not sure what everyone’s fascination with mugs is, but I’m definitely on board for it! No doubt these will be the go to mugs for the grandparents to be.
8 ASK THEM TO BUY A SPECIFIC BABY ITEM FOR A BIRTHDAY OR CHRISTMS
If it’s your birthday or Christmas coming up you could send them over your wish list and have a stroller, car seat or a baby outfit included. Not only do you get to enjoy announcing to your family that you’re pregnant in a fun way but you’re getting a head start on all those baby items you’ll need!
9 JUST TELL THEM!
It’s easy to overthink pregnancy announcements, especially when it’s to your parents and family. Sometimes it’s easier to tell your parents point blank that you’re pregnant. They’re going to be excited to be grandparents no matter how you tell them!
HOW LONG SHOULD YOU WAIT TO TELL YOUR FAMILY YOU’RE PREGNANT?
Most couples like to wait until after the first trimester to announce their pregnancies. There’s no hard and fast rule about how long to wait. It’s also completely okay to tell them right when you find out!
BENEFITS OF TELLING YOUR FAMILY YOU’RE PREGNANT RIGHT AWAY: I’m someone who doesn’t like keeping secrets. Once I found out I’m anxious for people to know so I don’t accidentally slip up. If you’re someone who gets bad morning sickness during pregnancy it can be easier to tell your family sooner so they understand what’s going on and can help you when needed.
BENEFITS OF WAITING AFTER THE FIRST TRIMESTER: The real benefit of waiting to tell your family after the first trimester is the risk of having a miscarriage is dramatically lowered. It’s devastating enough to experience a miscarriage, but to have to tell your family may make it harder if you like to keep that more personal.
No matter what you decide there’s sure to be happy tears flowing whether you tell them now or later!
